The leadership Newspaper of 6th July, 2022 on page 15 reports that the University College Hospital, Ibadan (UCH) has denied reports that the Hospital is to charge N1, 000.00 daily electricity tariff from patients. The public Relations Officer, Mr. Toye Akinrinola during an interview said the proposed tariff when implemented will cover utilities such as water, power etc. which are on the increase daily.
He said UCH spends about N20, 000,000.00 on diesel to power critical areas in the hospital such as Labour ward, theaters, accident and emergency units while about N60, 000,000.00 goes to Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) monthly though the power supply is not constant.

1b. The paper also reports on page 29 that the Nigeria Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC) and the Bureau for Public Enterprise (BPE) met on an emergency bases and activated the business continuity process and have appointed interim Managing Directors in some DisCos.
The DisCos restructured are the Kano, Benin, Kaduna and Port Harcourt as a result of the activation of collateralized shares of DisCos by Fidelity Bank and AFREXIM Bank. The BPE has nominated Bashir Gwandu (Kano), Yomi Adeyemi (Benin), and Umar Abdullahi (Kaduna)as independent Directors to represent Government’s 40% interest in the three DisCos respectively.

The Punch Newspaper of 6th July, 2022 on page 26reports that about 62% of Nigerians are without electricity and 90% lack cooking fuels. The statement was credited to the Hon. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timpre Sylva during 2022 Oil and Gas conference in Abuja. He said the core challenge facing the Power Sector is lack of Gas required to fire-up gas powered electricity generating plants.
He further said government was working hard by providing lots of enables which will help to realize the full potentials of the Gas sector through the development of critical infrastructure.

- The Punch Newspaper on page 19 reports that the Federal Government approved the strategy work plan to speed up the concession process for the 700 megawatts Zungeru Hydroelectric power plant in Niger State.
The statement which came from the Head of Public communications, Ibeh Chidi said the National Council on Privatization at its 3rd meeting for 2022 held at the Presidential Villa approved the work plan subject to any further development from the Ministry of Power.
The key objective of the Plan’s concession is to leverage on the private sector access to finance and reduce reliance on government budgetary allocation to fund the China EXIM Bank loan.
A joint technical committee has been set up with members drawn from Ministry of Power, Finance and National Planning, Water Resources, BPE and the office of the Accountant General of the Federation is to review and address all issues including approvals, regulations needed to proceed to the next phase of the transaction.
