Punch Newspaper page 19, Daily Sun page 20 and Vanguard page 19 all reported that 16 companies are pre-qualified for the privatization of the five National Integrated Power Projects (NIPPs) across the country. The five NIPPs plants are Geregu, Omotosho, Olorunsogo, Calabar and Benin-Ihovbor.
The Director-General, of the Bureau of Public Enterprises while listing the 16 pre-qualified bidders to include Mota – Engil Nig, Amperion Power, Sifax Energy, among others, has assured investors not to panic over reports that some of the plants have litigation issues. He stated that litigations against some of the plants were baseless and frivolous. This is because the Niger Delta Power Holding Company were empowered by the bids’ provisions under NIPPs transaction to terminate bids that violated the ground rules.
