(i) Daily Trust Newspaper page 35 reports that the indigenous energy firm, Gennex Technologies says it is planning to remove 10 percent of the nation’s population from the national grid as a way to solve the current power crisis in the country.

The firm said it intends to achieve the set target with its renewable energy solution, which is environmentally friendly and cheaper.

(ii) Daily Trust Newspaper page 45, Daily Sun page 25, Punch page 11, Nation page 28 and Leadership page 10 all reported that, the Committee for Defense of Human Rights (CDHR) has urged Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) to obey a court injunction restraining taking over of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) Board.

The President of CDHR, Mr. KehindeTiaga said that the Federal High Court Abuja, had recently issued and order of interim injunction restraining Fidelity Bank, its agents or privies from altering the board’s composition of BEDC pending the hearing and determination of the matter before the honourable court.

Nation Newspaper page 24 reports that the indigenes and customers of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, has appealed to the Government to help them ratify the problem of no electricity in their area.

They also appealed to DisCo to reduce high estimated bills they are giving to them and disconnect those that fail to pay.

(i) Leadership Newspaper page 18 and DailySun page 28 all reported that, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has said over $1.9 million has been lost in the last five (5) days as a result of the disruption of gas supply to the Ossiomo power plant in Ologbo, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the State.

The project is the brainchild of the Governor, Godwin Obaseki – led state government to make the state self-sustaining in power supply.

(ii) Leadership Newspaper page 27 reports that, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), has commenced power infrastructure upgrade to provide sustainable electricity supply, especially to the industrial hub of Agbara as well as Badagry.

The DisCo is in partnership with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), to further strengthen transmission assets along its corridor.
